Speaking of the album the guys say, "nomorejacketsplease is a rumination on finding hope through distance and change. It’s about redemption within friendships and internally by taking responsibility. It’s about how that path looked for us during our time in London. Sonically, nomorejacketsplease represents a development that has been brewing in us for the last few years, but one that could only have been realised by moving to the UK. With influences from the underground bass music we were surrounded by, it is full of breakbeats, fast tempos, and atmospheric synthesisers. All intermingled with the euphoric chord progressions and hook centred song writing we have always loved." And speaking about the focus track '$ame Thing' - "Amongst an album that is thoroughly reflective, $ame Thing is a fun and playful moment. It’s a realisation about a love still being there, and a chemistry that hasn’t dulled. The sample in the intro and bridge summarises this idea- “move, I know we don’t stop, electric vibes make your- bodies drop”. Still, there is a tension- what will the future of the relationship look like in the face of its history? A lot of the album explores breakbeats, faster tempos, and different kick patterns compared to our earlier music. $ame Thing harks back to an earlier sound for us, and is one of the only three tracks on the album to be 4 on the floor. Being in London in 2023 and 2024 we were surrounded by UKG, and $ame Thing is a direct result of that. We have a name for the type of sample you hear all the time in this genre. You hear it in songs like LOSTBOYJAY’s Could Be Wrong, Lemtom’s Wanna See You, and Catz ‘n Dogz’s No Regrets. It’s a plucky minor 9 chord that gets pitched around. We have a playlist of anything that has this sample called “1am plucks”. We had to have a 1am pluck in $ame Thing (in the second chorus and bridge), and this is one of my (Luke) favourite parts on the album."
