Taylor Swindells started writing music under Neighborhood Libraries in 2020 as a response to the pandemic, drawing from various ambient and neo-classical influences in an effort to preserve mental health and offer fleeting moments of tranquility. Swindells explains the story behind the record: "In Our Wake is an exploration of what we’ve left behind. It’s an echo from the past, a dreamy exploration of what was to help navigate the present. I had a window of time off between films last winter, so I set out to make something purely ambient for my own headspace as a way to reset before life became overwhelming again. I looped old nature documentaries on Youtube (Jaque Cousteau, BBC, etc) and made soundscapes inspired by the footage. Our relationship with nature plays an outsized role in this record, it’s a meditation that hopes we can leave something worthwhile behind." Focus track "Depths" synopsis: "This was another one of the early compositions from the record. It was inspired by a doc on the deep waters, the scale is so vast and mysterious. It’s meant to feel like a blue whale gliding effortlessly through the dark waters."
