Few artists can claim that music “saved their life” with more authority than Shrimpnose. The LA-via-Minnesota experimental electronic artist has struggled with a speech impediment since the age of five that has hindered his ability to communicate with peers, survive school and hold down a job. Since dropping out of college to pursue music production full-time in 2016, Shrimpnose’s music has possessed a hunger and purpose that can only come from someone who can’t communicate without their craft. “Music is the only language I have where I feel fluent and capable of expressing the ideas I can't verbally,” he shared with Pigeons and Planes in an op-ed. “It brought me confidence and a voice—and a little much needed money—while college was just dragging me deeper into depression and poverty.” Shrimpnose has been climbing the ranks over the past years, with features in Complex, VICE, NPR, and most recently Dublab, EDM.com, Rinse FM, Passion of the Weiss, and BBC. He has a decorated history of collaborations with maxime., arbour, Bleep Bloop, Daedelus, Bobby Raps, Little Snake, Somni, Harris Cole, and others. He has performed across the country with underground heavyweights such as Blockhead, Anomalie, XXYYXX, Purity Ring, Caspa, TOKiMONSTA, Giraffage, Gold Panda, and more. He has also played one of the final Low End Theory nights in LA, where he would eventually set as home base. With 2 EPs and an LP out with Nettwerk Music Group, Shrimpnose has also released with Brainfeeder Records, Bitbird, Blue Note, Chillhop Music, Friends of Friends, and Astralwerks Records. His music steadily flutters between the beautiful and the jagged corners of electronic music, and his newest single is no different.
